Sam Kedem Nursery
TOWN & COUNTRY ROSES

Dear Friends,

It is a pleasure to bring forth yet another offering. This season has seen many changes at the nursery & farm, that will become more apparent in the coming years: installed pot in pot tree-system for 10 & 20 gallon containers, floor-heating system in our propagation house and erected pole barn. Fruit production was expanded to include raspberry & fruit tree varieties for pick-your- own (PYO), which as of today includes: apples, pears, plums, strawberry & raspberry. We strive to produce tasty high-quality produce while using organic practices.

2004 season marks the nursery’s15TH anniversary. In the past year a good friend of many local gardeners, passionate gardener and renowned horticulturist, Raymond Swanson, has passed away. Ray followed our progress during his retirement years from the start, always helpful & witty like a seasoned veteran (served in the Navy during WW II), excellent storyteller & fisherman. It was an honor for us to know Ray; we will surely miss him.

The mission of the nursery since the onset was to select hardy roses for the Northern tier. Listening to gardeners & experts’ advice, as well as experimenting ourselves, we have managed to bring forth a comprehensive selection of own root hardy roses for northern gardens & beyond.

Visiting the nursery this season, you will find a variety of products, including: perennials, shrubs, trees, custom soil blends, organic plant food & plant protection, seasonal (baskets, bulbs, bedding plants, herbs, cut flowers, sweetcorn, pumpkin, decorations), home-made jam, crafts & collectibles .

Also we will be offering landscape/garden design & service in addition to the consulting rosarian program which runs on weekends during May & June. If you wish to explore it with us, it is best to arrange an appointment, especially during peak season (April-June).

This catalog includes species & varieties that are available for shipment and at the nursery. We did not include miniature roses since we no longer ship them; however you will find them, along with many other plants & products, at the nursery.

Many thanks to our loyal customers who encourage us & appreciate the value of service & quality. Our sincere appreciation to Wioletta & Peter, who came back from Poland and helped industriously to bring forth the season’s offerings on time.

Yours, Sam

The Nursery & Farm

The nursery was established in 1989. While the focus of the catalog is on hardy roses, the nursery, which is open daily April to October, offers many shrubs, perennials, ornamental, fruit & shade trees, vines & evergreen.

The farm was established in 1996 and includes both nursery and fruit for PYO. Although not strictly organic, we have all but eliminated harmful pesticides from our production, relying on natural & bio-control instead. As part of the long-standing commitment to our customers we have installed display gardens, adding more each year.

We offer custom organic plant food. This is a great product, which benefits all flowering plants: perennials, annuals & shrubs. It has long lasting activity in the soil – one or two applications per season, enhance soil bioactivity and addresses safety & environmental concerns.
